With 2.5m units sold in 2018, BMW remained the largest premium car manufacturer ahead of Mercedes and Audi. BMW holds roughly 20% of the top-end segment in Europe and close to 15% in the US. Over the past 15 years, BMW brand extended its product range in automotive to 21 model varients, and expanded extensively in China. BMW now sells 45% of volume to Europe, 18% to Americas and 24% to China. BMW has established itself as a leader in Electric Vehicle and lightweight technology with the i3, and has a co-operation with Toyota to develop fuel-cell vehicles for commercialisation by the end of the decade.
