Rémi D. - Derivative sales

Following several internships on the sales floor, Remi joined Exane in 2006 when he graduated from Essec. His job is derivatives sales for the Private Asset Management department.

How would you describe your job in derivative sales?
"The sales person provides the interface between the research and structuring teams, on the one hand, and the client on the other. You have to listen to the client in order to be able to present ideas that fit their investment profiles based on the studies prepared by the research teams and developed in discussions with analysts. The themes can be rich and varied: uranium, Taiwan aerospace; you have to be able to handle anything in fact!
It is an extremely interactive job involving a real test of ideas and a real exchange with the client. We are expected to be very proactive and to develop various themes in order to be able to come up with new investment ideas."

What are your responsibilities within the team?
"I manage my own client and contact list and I am responsible for the relations with my clients from A to Z. I have complete autonomy in organising my time and meetings. Against this, I am also responsible for my results: in this business you are granted a lot of responsibility from the word go and the culture is very results oriented. You have to be able to manage pressure because the job is very demanding and you have to like a challenge. Remaining motivated through the highs AND the lows requires perseverance! "

What convinced you to join Exane?
"The company's dynamism and entrepreneurial spirit! Several things come to mind: the private asset management business has been built up from nothing by my manager, the Singapore office was set up in less than a year, one of our sales people initiated and has consolidated our position on the Spanish market, and so on. Exane allows scope for personal initiative."
